Adaptive Clothing for Seniors

As I work with seniors, families and caregivers, we eventually have issues concerning clothing. Sometimes the issue is due to arthritic fingers that can no longer button, hook, tie or zip. Sometimes it is impaired vision, and they are unable to put outfits together or see the fabric colors.  Sometimes we have family members with dementia who take clothing off as soon as someone helps them get it on or who  just need the simple closure styles.  Frequently family members get frustrated because they do not know what to buy or where to shop.  I have used the Buck and Buck Catalog for years to help families deal with these issues.  I have shopped online for my own family and used their catalog many times when shopping for clients.

Buck and Buck’s clothing is adaptive to many common dressing situations for seniors.  Colors can be easily coordinated, and many styles are available with an elastic waist.  You will find coordinated outfits which can make dressing so much easier for those no longer able to make choices.  For those who constantly undress, they have one-piece jumpsuits that fasten in the back.  The clothing stands up to the laundry services of facilities.  They will also provide free name tags and hemming of garments ordered.  The phone staff has been very helpful and can help you figure out sizes and styles–just give them the measurements.  If you live out of state, perhaps caregivers can measure for you.  In one case, I requested Velcro under buttons and instead of zippers–no problem!  They have shoes with Velcro, specialty socks, and shoes for those with very swollen feet.  They also have a large assortment of sweaters, and outerwear fleece that can be easily washed.  You will find a large assortment of underwear, pajamas and robes–just about any clothing item you could need.  The return policies have been easy to work with as well.

Sometimes, finding the right adaptive clothing is all that is needed for a senior to dress or toilet independently.  That feeling of being independent is such an important quality of life for our family members and senior citizens.  The next time you have a request for clothing from the facility, caregivers or a family member, please take a look at Buck and Buck.
